Baby Q & A
It was so fun to finally share about our pregnancy and see all the sweet words you all had to say! We feel so loved and can’t wait for this new adventure. We have gotten lots of questions since announcing and I thought it would be fun to put together a little Q & A of the most asked questions about pregnancy and baby! Last week we had our 20 week anatomy scan and baby is growing well! This time Matt was allowed to come with me, which made the experience so special. It is truly a miracle watching this baby grow! Let me start this out by answering one of our most asked questions by far…
Are you finding out the gender?
We decided early on that we were going to wait to find out the gender. We weighed the options and decided that there aren’t too many genuine surprises in life - so we are going to take advantage and wait until the delivery! During our 20 week ultrasound we had to close our eyes every time the technician surveyed the lower body. It was so difficult knowing that someone else in the room knew the gender and made me even more excited for when we finally find out! Waiting has definitely been difficult at times, but we are practicing our patience and can’t wait to find out once baby is born!
When is your due date?
December 10th, 2020!
How is your pregnancy been so far?
I have been so fortunate that I have felt really well, other than some mild nausea and fatigue during the first trimester. The second trimester has been amazing so far and I am enjoying being pregnant more than I ever thought I would. It has been so wild to see my body change to nurture this sweet miracle.
Have you felt baby move?
Yes! I started to noticed little flutters around 16.5 weeks. I was doing yoga and lying in Shavasana (basically a pose where you are lying flat on your back) and felt little flutters! I was skeptical that it was baby at first, but a couple days later I felt them again and realized it was baby moving. Since then they have gotten stronger and I am now able to feel them throughout most the day!
Are you planning on staying in California?
We do see ourselves staying in California! We really love San Francisco and are planning to stay in our apartment for now. I recently posted a tour of our space here! I am excited for the challenge of adapting our small space to accommodate baby!
What has surprised you the most about pregnancy?
I had a lot of fears about being pregnant, especially when it came to morning sickness and body changes. I feel so fortunate that my pregnancy has been so different than I expected! I never thought I would be one of those women who said “I love being pregnant!” but I really do! It has been so amazing to watch my body change and feel our little baby moving around inside me. I have never felt more proud to be a women, with a body that can shift to create a safe and cozy place for life to grow.
Do you have a guess on the gender of baby?
Neither of us really have a preference on a gender, which helped with the decision to wait to find out! We each have guesses, but I feel like they change almost daily. At first I thought baby was going to be a girl, and now I feel like they might be a boy… guess we’ll have to wait and see!
Have you had any pregnancy symptoms? How have you handled those?
I am grateful that I really haven’t had too many symptoms other than being really tired and some mild nausea in the first trimester. One of the challenges mentally/emotionally has been being pregnant during this pandemic, especially being an ER nurse. I’ve gotten more peace as the pregnancy has progressed and I am learning that I cannot control everything. The rest of my fears and anxieties I need to release to God. The second trimester I have felt nearly back to my normal self, minus my changing body. I have noticed some hip/SI joint discomfort some days, especially when I am on my feet a lot! Yoga has helped a ton with those symptoms and I have started to incorporate some strength training as well. It also helps to have a physical therapist for a husband!
Any food cravings or aversions?
The first trimester I craved lemonade and couldn’t drink coffee. I had aversions to pretty much all vegetables which was really hard for me! Once the nausea passed around week 10, all I ate was salads for about 3 weeks straight!! After the first trimester I have been back to eating as I normally would plus maybe a few more pickles than usual. Thankfully my aversion to coffee went away, so I have also been able to drink my cup or two each morning.
Were you trying for a baby or was it a surprise?
We were trying to get pregnant! I shared a little bit about what lead us to being “ready” for a baby in a previous post here.
