Welcome, Baby Girl!
The months of waiting finally came to a close and we welcomed our baby girl, Harper Daisy, on December 13th, 2020 at 5:35 p.m. She surprised us both with her weight of 5 lb. 1 oz. and 18.5 inches long! We didn’t know we could make such a tiny baby (especially being 3 days overdue) but we are grateful our Harper girl is healthy and strong! Finding out that this sweet baby was a girl from her Papa just moments after delivery was one of the best moments of my life. I felt throughout the pregnancy that we would be having a little girl, but worked hard to keep my expectations in check knowing that we would be waiting for the surprise when we welcomed our baby earthside. What a special surprise that was, and well worth the wait!
It has been a little over three weeks since stepping into this new world of motherhood. I feel very thankful that Matt has been able to spend these weeks at home with us. Having him around to support and help us has made the transition so much easier, especially because we don’t have family nearby or able to travel at this time due to the pandemic. The transition into motherhood has honestly gone so much better than I expected and I am enjoying this newborn season knowing how fast these days will pass quickly and how I will miss them. Our little family has been cozied up and enjoying all the snuggles with our healthy baby girl.
We spent Christmas and New Years at home this year as a new family of three. We have also been getting outside for walks around the neighborhood and recently took Harper for her first visit to Ocean Beach. She slept through the whole thing, but who can blame her when the sound of the crashing waves are so relaxing. Getting used to our new normal has us excited for all the adventures we will have as a family. Although I am cherishing this slow and simple time, I look forward to watch Harper experience all the things we love about living in California. We also are excited for when the world will allow for safe travel again, and the trips we will take as a family! It makes my heart so warm and happy to think about sharing those experiences with her as she grows!
Despite being far from family and having the complexity of the pandemic to deal with, we have been able to spend lots of time Facetiming with family. I am so grateful to live in this era where technology makes distance just a little less difficult. Still, we are looking forward to the day where both Grandma and Grandpa, Oma and Opa, and all the Aunties, Uncles and cousins can meet Harper. Until then, we are at peace in this season and working to remain patient. There is so much hope and light for us going into this new year! We hope you feel hopeful too!
