Making San Francisco Home

It has been a little over 6 months since we moved into our first apartment in San Francisco. When I write it down, it kind of seems like a while; but honestly I feels as though we’re just starting to settle into life! We have been being busy with the move, settling into new jobs, and building our community here. Naturally, I have been a little absent on the blogging side of things, but I think when big changes happen it’s important to allow yourself the time to adjust. I’m excited to get back into it and share a little bit about what life has been like for us!

If you know anything about moving to San Francisco, you know the housing market is crazy! Finding the right apartment for us was a definite hurdle. We lost a couple opportunities before realizing how assertive we had to be at the open houses (yes, open houses for rental properties... it is wild.) Eventually we caught on and ended up offering a deposit on the place at the open house. I have never felt like getting an apartment was such a competition, but we are so very happy to have our little slice of the city.

We basically started from scratch in our new home except for whatever we could fit in our car to drive out to California. Renting a moving truck with a 40+ hour drive just didn’t seem worth it for the amount of furniture we had in our studio apartment in Miami. Slowly since the move we have been furnishing and decorating our new space and with every day that passes, it is feeling more like home!

If I have recognized one thing from purging our material possessions to move across the country (twice now), it is our tendency to think we need more stuff than we actually do. This time around we have been much more intentional, making sure each piece we add to our home has purpose. I have noticed both Matt and I feel more content with a simpler and more intentional space and I have been enjoying seeing our vision come together in this new apartment!

Change is difficult at times, but that is its beauty. It forces you to experience new things, to adapt, and to grow. It is a constant that follows you through every season of life, and one that I have personally decided to embrace because it makes me place my contentment in something other than my circumstances. Movement will always be there. Welcome it and hang on for the ride!
